Accomack County Release Records
A release is an act by one custodian. At Accomack County Jail, it may follow bond, a court order, dismissal, time served, sentence completion, or another lawful direction. Eastern Shore Regional Jail can make the same kinds of movements for people held on Accomack cases, but Northampton County operates that jail and keeps its execution records. A person can also leave either jail for the Virginia Department of Corrections, another jail, a hospital, federal authorities, or immigration custody. Those movements end one booking without necessarily placing the person in the community.
That distinction controls the search. A current roster, when one exists, is meant to show people still held. Accomack and ESRJ do not publish a verified public roster or release archive. Once an entry is gone, absence alone proves little. The durable evidence is an actual release sheet, signed state release instrument, direct agency confirmation, source-reported VINE event, or court order paired with the jail's operational record. Full discharge means custody and supervision have ended. Parole and probation mean legal supervision continues after confinement.
- Time served
- The custodial term tracked by that authority has been completed, subject to other holds.
- Parole
- Conditional release from incarceration to community supervision.
- Probation
- Court-ordered supervision that may exist without a prison release.
- Detainer
- A request or authority that can send a person to another custodian.
- Discharge
- The end of the sentence or supervision obligation documented by the responsible agency.
Accomack County Release Types
The wording on an Accomack County release record matters more than the bare date. “Released” can describe community release, while “transferred” or “released to detainer” signals continued custody elsewhere. A dismissal can explain the legal basis for release but does not show the minute jail processing ended. Likewise, parole approval starts release planning and is not the final physical event.
| Record term | Meaning | Next source |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or recognizance | Custody on that booking ends under court-set terms. | Jail release sheet and court case |
| Time served | The active local custodial term is satisfied. | Jail entry and sentencing order |
| Parole | Prison confinement ends, but VADOC supervision continues. | Release instrument, locator, District 4 |
| Probation | The court imposes supervision, sometimes without prison. | Judgment and supervising office |
| Transfer or detainer | One custodian releases the person to another. | Receiving agency and destination |
| Dismissal or acquittal | The case ends without a conviction on that charge. | Court disposition plus jail execution record |
A person who left an Accomack facility may still be held elsewhere. Always ask for the release disposition and receiving agency.
Fields in Accomack Release Records
No official online Accomack or ESRJ released-person profile was found, so no fixed public field set can be promised. A focused written request can identify the fields needed to prove the event. Ask for an existing booking or release sheet, not a newly created report. The custodian may redact or withhold protected material, and each field may not sit in one document.
| Requested field | What it can establish |
|---|---|
| Full name and identifiers | That the record concerns the right person. |
| Booking number | The exact custody episode tied to the request. |
| Commitment date and authority | When and why custody began. |
| Actual release date and time | When that facility completed its processing. |
| Release type or authority | Bond, order, sentence satisfaction, parole, or another basis. |
| Receiving agency and destination | Whether departure was a transfer instead of community release. |
| Detainer notation | Whether another authority claimed custody. |
| Property or account receipt | Documentation connected with release processing. |
Does a court disposition prove release? It can show the legal reason custody should end, but it does not establish the precise release time or rule out an unrelated hold. Pair it with the jail record.
Request Accomack County Release Records
For Accomack County Jail, the official FOIA contact is Captain Carl Wright at cwright@co.accomack.va.us, 757-789-9204, P.O. Box 149, Accomac, VA 23301. ESRJ requests go to Northampton County because its sheriff operates the regional jail. Call 757-678-0460 to identify the current custodian before sending a request. Neither jail publishes records-counter hours, so call before an in-person visit.
- Identify the actual jail and provide the adult's full name, date of birth if known, booking number, and approximate booking or release dates.
- Ask for the booking and release sheet, actual date and time, disposition, legal authority, receiving agency, and routine adult booking photograph if needed.
- Request electronic delivery, segregable nonexempt portions, and a cost estimate before work begins.
- Keep the written response. If records are withheld, ask for the cited legal basis and follow the named custodian's review path.
The Accomack Sheriff's FOIA information states that the first staff hour is excluded, then work is charged at $40 per hour, with printed pages at $0.08 each. A deposit of half may be required when the estimate exceeds $200. Virginia FOIA generally requires one of its permitted responses within five working days, with a written seven-working-day extension when properly used. Confirm the rates when filing.
| Local item | Published amount |
|---|---|
| First staff hour | No charge |
| Additional staff time | $40 per hour |
| Printed copy | $0.08 per page |
| Deposit threshold | Estimate above $200 |
Virginia Law on Accomack Releases
Virginia Code § 2.2-3704 governs reasonably specific requests for existing public records and permits actual reasonable costs. It does not require an agency to answer questions or create a new daily release list. Section 2.2-3706 addresses criminal-law-enforcement records and routine adult booking photographs, subject to a temporary exception when release would jeopardize a felony investigation.
Medical, juvenile, security, investigative, sealed, and other protected information may be withheld. Virginia jail standards show that facilities maintain operational inmate files, but those standards do not open the full file to the public. A narrow request helps the custodian separate releasable fields. No official online retention period was found because neither local facility publishes a roster or released archive.
Accomack Release Records After Expungement
A later missing record may reflect lawful expungement or sealing rather than a failed search. Under the version of Virginia Code § 19.2-392.2 in effect on the research date, qualifying acquittals, dismissals, nolle prosequi dispositions, and identity misuse can support a petition. Accomack Circuit Court is the local petition court for a qualifying Accomack case. An order can remove police and court electronic records from ordinary access.
Virginia's wider sealing framework has date-sensitive provisions, including changes scheduled after the research date. Current law must be checked before relying on a procedure. Once access is sealed or expunged, cached copies are not a sound basis for reconstruction. The official access status controls.
Find Accomack County Released Inmates
Start with the last place that physically held the person. An Accomack arrest does not prove the person stayed at Accomack County Jail. ESRJ also houses people for Accomack, while state-responsible, federal, and immigration cases move into separate systems. Use a booking, DOC, or case number when available, then compare the facility and lawful identifiers before accepting a match.
- Call Accomack County Jail at 757-787-1095 or ESRJ at 757-678-0460 and ask whether the person was released or transferred.
- Search Virginia Jail VINE for a source-reported local or regional jail status change. A missing record is not proof of release.
- Check Accomack General District Court for misdemeanors and preliminary felony events, then Circuit Court for felony trials and appeals.
- Use the VADOC locator for current state custody or supervision. Follow BOP, ICE, or USMS routes only when that sovereign is involved.
- Request the actual release sheet when the date, reason, or transfer destination matters.
The Accomack County 24-hour release list explains the same-day fallback in detail, while the home search path above is best for one named person across all custody systems.
VADOC Accomack Release Search
The VADOC Inmate and Supervisee Locator covers people currently in VADOC custody or supervision. It includes institutions, probation and parole districts, certain hospitals, state-responsible people in local or regional jails, and CCAP. VADOC says the locator updates daily and may contain delayed or inaccurate information. It is not promised as a permanent history of fully discharged people.
| Search field | Use | Required detail |
|---|---|---|
| DOC number | Best identity match | Seven digits |
| Name | Search without an ID | Full last name and at least three first-name letters |
| Location | Narrow current placement | Optional |
| Race, gender, age | Separate similar names | Optional filters |
The official VADOC search form shows the available lookup fields and active-scope warning.
An incarcerated result means current state custody. A supervisee result suggests current community supervision, but the judgment and release papers are needed to distinguish parole from probation. No result can mean full discharge, a spelling issue, delay, county-only custody, or a person outside VADOC scope.
Two Courts Confirm Accomack Releases
Accomack has two adult court paths with different roles. General District Court handles misdemeanors, traffic matters, and preliminary felony stages. Circuit Court handles felony trials and appeals. Search the General District Court system by locality and identity, then use the state case-information gateway or the Circuit Clerk for the felony file.
The official General District Court search shows case-level fields that can corroborate release authority.
A disposition, bond action, sentence, or probation order can explain the legal change. It is still not the jail's physical release timestamp. Check both courts when the case path is unclear, then return to the proper jail custodian for execution details.
Accomack Release Supervision Records
Accomack District 4 handles VADOC field supervision for Accomack and Northampton. A locator match listed as a supervisee may reflect parole, probation, or another VADOC category. District 4 can help resolve office assignment or data lag within its disclosure limits, while the court judgment and release instrument identify the legal status. The office is at 23378 Commerce Drive, Accomack, VA 23301, and its phone is 757-787-5890.
Virginia parole is limited by offense date and statutory exceptions. Most felony offenses committed on or after January 1, 1995 are not eligible for ordinary discretionary parole under § 53.1-165.1, but exceptions exist. A Board grant authorizes a later process and does not prove the person has walked out. The full verification path appears on the Accomack County parole and probation page.
ESRJ Reentry Before Accomack Release
The ESRJ reentry program lists Thinking for a Change, substance-abuse programming, anger management, GED work, and family reunification. The program is led by Chaplain K.F. Jones and facilitated by Deputy Clark Lovelady. It is relevant to Accomack detainees housed at ESRJ, but participation must not be assumed for any named person.
ESRJ Release Funds and Documents
Eastern Shore Regional Jail publishes unusual local post-release details. Funds left in an inmate account are returned at release on a debit card. That statement does not identify the exit door, family waiting place, taxi policy, or local release hour. Those facts were not published and should be confirmed with ESRJ.
The reentry page separately says departing program participants possess documents such as a DMV ID, Certificate of Incarceration, GED, and class certificates. That statement applies to participants. It does not promise that every person released from ESRJ receives each item.
Proof of VADOC Release
State-prison rules must not be applied to Accomack County Jail or ESRJ. VADOC states that a person leaves a state facility by 11:59 p.m. on the release date, weather permitting. Applicable Orders of Release and Conditions of Probation or Parole are read or provided, signed, dated, and witnessed. Those instruments are stronger evidence than an old projected-date screenshot or a locator record that later disappears.
The state rule does not establish the hour or process used at either local jail.
The signed papers identify the release authority and conditions. A detainer can still direct the person immediately to another custodian.
Travel After a VADOC Release
The VADOC facility-release information says bus transportation can be arranged when needed for a person leaving a state prison. This is a specific VADOC service. The official Accomack County Jail and ESRJ pages publish no matching family-waiting, exit-door, taxi, or bus procedure, so the state transportation rule cannot be copied onto either local facility.
Accomack Release Alerts and Transfers
Virginia Jail VINE covers all local and regional jails in the state, including Accomack County Jail and ESRJ. Search is free and anonymous. Release, transfer, escape, and death are among the reported events, but VINE is not a lasting archive after release. Preserve the event date and source facility, then confirm through the custodian when another hold may exist.
VADOC notifications use NAAVI, a separate victim-notification system. A transfer from a local jail to VADOC is continued custody and can require separate registration. If a person returns to a local jail, a new Jail VINE registration may be needed. One alert does not follow every move across systems.
Federal custody has other limits. The BOP inmate locator can preserve a past release date for federal records from 1982 forward, but “Released” means only that BOP custody ended. ICE's locator focuses on current immigration detention. USMS has no comparable open historical locator.
Accomack Release to ICE
A jail notation that says “released to ICE” describes a transfer into civil immigration custody, not community release. Search the ICE Online Detainee Locator System using the A-number and country of birth when possible, or the exact biographical fields. Recent booking, transfer lag, spelling variation, and system limits can all produce no result.
ODLS silence is inconclusive, and the tool is not a historical ICE release archive. The local release record should name the receiving agency. Follow that destination and the responsible federal field office rather than treating removal from a county roster as proof of freedom.
Compare Accomack Release Search Sources
Each system answers a narrow question. The most reliable result comes from matching the source to the last custodian and the kind of event that needs proof.
| Source | What it covers | What absence means |
|---|---|---|
| Accomack Jail or ESRJ | Local booking, release, or transfer | No public roster exists, so ask the custodian |
| Virginia Jail VINE | Source-reported local jail status change | Not proof of release |
| VADOC locator | Current state custody or supervision | May reflect full discharge or scope limits |
| Accomack courts | Legal order and disposition | Does not timestamp jail processing |
| BOP locator | Federal custody and past BOP release | Does not rule out other custody |
| ICE ODLS | Current immigration detention | Inconclusive, not historical proof |
Accomack Release Facilities and Systems
State, federal, immigration, and USMS custody require different confirmation paths. Each page below identifies the responsible system and the limits of its public search.
- Accomack County Jail: county custody with records held by the Accomack Sheriff.
- Eastern Shore Regional Jail: regional custody with Northampton as operator.
- Virginia Department of Corrections: state prison custody and District 4 supervision.
- Federal Bureau of Prisons: federal sentenced custody and historical release dates.
- ICE Detention System: current civil immigration custody.
- U.S. Marshals Service Prisoner Operations: federal pretrial and contract detention.
Which Accomack Jail Released Them?
Accomack County has its own jail, while the separate Eastern Shore Regional Jail sits in Northampton County and also houses Accomack prisoners. ESRJ opened in May 2007 and replaced Northampton's older 30-bed jail. The actual holding facility, not simply the arrest county, determines who owns the release record and booking photograph. Confirm the facility before sending a request.
ESRJ Visits After Release
ESRJ bars former inmates from any facility from visiting a current inmate until 90 days after release unless jail administration gives prior written approval. This is a post-release visitor restriction. It does not describe how long a release record, booking entry, or photograph remains available online.
