Eastern Shore Regional Jail, often shortened to ESRJ, is a regional jail in Eastville. The Northampton County Sheriff's Office operates it for a population drawn chiefly from Northampton and Accomack counties. It houses men and women across minimum through maximum security levels and can accept people from other jurisdictions. The actual holding facility controls the operational release record, even when an Accomack court controls the criminal case.

A community release may follow bond, a court order, dismissal, sentence satisfaction, or another lawful direction. Departure can also mean transfer. VADOC, Accomack County Jail, another local jail, ICE, the U.S. Marshals Service, or another authority may receive the person. Ask ESRJ whether the event was release or transfer, then ask for the receiving agency. A VINE release notice is good source evidence, but corroboration matters when another hold is possible.

The official ESRJ page directly publishes Virginia VINE as its status and notification route. No separate official 24-hour or 72-hour release archive was found. A missing name is not enough. ESRJ is a 248-bed, 85,500-square-foot facility operating around the clock. “24-hour facility” describes its operation, not a public list of people released during the last day. ESRJ Release Funds and Records

ESRJ says money remaining in an inmate account is returned at release on a debit card. That is a documented local release detail. It does not establish an exit time, family waiting area, weekend policy, transportation plan, or return of every property item. No such instructions were verified in the official pages reviewed.

A release record should be treated separately from the debit-card handoff. The record can show the date, time, disposition, and receiving agency, while the card is an account-settlement method. ESRJ's 90-Day Visitor Rule

Eastern Shore Regional Jail bars a former inmate from any facility from visiting a current ESRJ inmate until 90 days after release, unless jail administration gives prior written approval. This is a post-release visitor restriction. It is not a release-record retention period, a mugshot retention period, or evidence that a profile will stay online for 90 days.

The rule matters when someone recently released from Accomack County custody plans to visit a person at ESRJ. The starting point is the former inmate's release, and written administrative approval is the stated exception. Questions belong with ESRJ at its published office number. Do not infer a release date from whether a visit is approved or denied, since administrative review and other rules may also apply.

ESRJ Transfer to ICE

An ESRJ notation such as “released to ICE” records a transfer into civil immigration custody, not return to the Eastern Shore community. Use the ICE detainee locator with A-number and country of birth when available, or exact name, date of birth, and country of birth. Preserve the ESRJ transfer entry because it links the two custody episodes.

ICE's locator focuses on current detention and is not a historic ESRJ release archive. A no-result can reflect recent processing, a transfer, spelling variation, or scope limits. Follow up with the responsible ICE office rather than declaring release based on silence. The same logic applies when ESRJ transfers a person to VADOC: use the state locator and separate VADOC notification route.

Two Eastern Shore Custodians

Accomack County Jail and ESRJ are separate facilities. An Accomack arrest may lead to either one, but the operator of the actual holding site normally controls the release entry and booking photograph. Accomack courts can retain the case while Northampton retains the ESRJ jail record. Searching only one county creates an avoidable gap.

If the last facility was the county jail in Accomac, use the Accomack County Jail records route. If it was ESRJ in Eastville, call ESRJ and request from Northampton. In both cases, VINE can supply a reported event and the court can explain legal authority. Neither substitutes for following a named transfer.
