Find Accomack County Jail Releases

To find someone released from Accomack County Jail, begin with the custody event rather than a broad name search. A person may leave this Accomack County facility for the community, another jail, state prison, federal custody, or immigration detention. Each route produces a different record. The most reliable Accomack County Jail release search combines direct jail contact, a Virginia local-jail notification check, the matching court case, and a focused request for the jail's release entry. A missing online name alone does not show which route occurred.

Accomack Jail Release Paths

Accomack County Jail is a local jail operated by the Accomack County Sheriff's Office. It is not Eastern Shore Regional Jail and it is not a Virginia Department of Corrections prison. Jail staff hold adults until a legal basis permits release or requires movement. Bond, a magistrate or judge's order, dismissal, sentence satisfaction, or time served can end the local custody episode. A transfer order can also end that episode without returning the person to the community.

The destination matters. A person may go home, report under a court or supervision condition, move to Eastern Shore Regional Jail, enter VADOC custody, receive hospital care, or pass to another county, federal authorities, or ICE. The Accomack County Jail release entry should be read for disposition and receiving agency, not merely a date. A date proves that this jail stopped holding the person. It does not, by itself, prove freedom from every other hold.

Confirm an Accomack Jail Release

No official Accomack County Jail current roster, released-person archive, booking profile, or rolling release list was located in the official pages reviewed. The absence is important. A generic web search should not be presented as an official jail search, and a person who no longer appears in a live system should not automatically be labeled released. Confirmation begins with the dedicated jail line and follows the custody trail.

  1. Call Accomack County Jail at 757-787-1095 and ask whether the named adult is currently held, released, or transferred.
  2. Search VINELink under Virginia for Accomack County Jail, matching identifiers and the reporting facility.
  3. Check Accomack General District Court for misdemeanor and preliminary felony events, then Circuit Court for felony trials or appeals.
  4. If the answer is transfer, contact the receiving agency. Do not treat transfer as community release.
  5. For past detail, request the booking and release entry from the Accomack Sheriff's FOIA custodian.

Important: VINELink is a status-change source, not a permanent Accomack County Jail release archive. Save the reported facility and event date, then corroborate any transfer.

The full county search and release-record workflow is also organized on the Accomack County released inmates home page. Court entries provide legal context, such as bond action, dismissal, sentence, or a later violation. Yet a court order is not the minute jail staff completed processing, and it cannot rule out an unrelated detainer.

Accomack Jail Records Contact

Present-status questions go to the jail. A written historical request goes to the sheriff's designated FOIA contact. The official records-counter schedule was not published in the material reviewed, so call before making an in-person trip. A narrow request is easier to locate and price than a demand for every document bearing a name.

Ask for an existing booking/release sheet for a named adult, using date of birth or booking number when lawfully known and an approximate custody period. Specify the actual release date and time, release disposition or reason, legal-authority reference, and receiving agency if transferred. Ask for electronic delivery, segregable nonexempt portions, and a cost estimate before work begins.

Accomack's published schedule excludes the first staff hour, then states $40 per staff hour and $0.08 per printed page. An estimate above $200 may require half in advance. The page describes a five-working-day response framework and a possible written seven-working-day extension. Rates and routing can change, so verify them when the request is sent.

Accomack Jail Custody Facts

The official corrections description identifies a maximum-security local jail and reports an average daily population of 95. That figure describes an average number held on a day. It is not annual admissions, annual releases, turnover, or average length of stay. It should never be used to estimate how many Accomack County Jail release records exist.

The official Sheriff's Office page provides the public contact route and does not expose a recent-release feed in its navigation. The successful official-page capture shows that contact context.

The image supports the proper starting point: direct county contact, followed by VINE, court records, and a written jail release-record request when historical proof is needed.

Accomack Jail Release Fields

No online Accomack County Jail release profile was found, so public field labels or a retention window cannot be claimed. A request may seek the operational facts needed to distinguish release from transfer. The custodian decides what exists, what may be released, and what must be redacted under Virginia law.

Requested fieldWhy it matters
Full name and booking numberLinks the entry to the correct custody episode
Commitment date and authorityShows why the jail accepted custody
Actual release date and timeMarks the end of jail processing
Release type or legal authoritySeparates bond, order, dismissal, and sentence satisfaction
Receiving agency and destinationShows whether custody continued elsewhere
Detainer notationIdentifies a hold by another authority

Virginia FOIA applies to existing records and does not force the sheriff to create a new release list or answer a set of questions. Security, juvenile, investigative, sealed, and other protected information may be withheld. A request for the release entry can be separated from a request for the routine adult booking photograph so a photo issue does not delay the core custody facts.

Accomack Release to ICE

“Released to ICE” is not release to the Accomack County community. It describes a handoff from local criminal custody to federal civil immigration custody. The jail record's receiving-agency field is therefore essential. When ICE is named, the Online Detainee Locator System can be checked by A-number and country of birth, or by exact biographical information.

ODLS is chiefly a current-detention locator. Recent processing, transfer, spelling differences, or system scope can produce no result. Silence does not prove that ICE released the person, and ODLS is not a historical archive of Accomack County Jail releases. If the match does not appear, confirm the transfer notation with the jail and follow the responsible ICE field office.

Note: A receiving-agency name changes the search path; it does not erase the Accomack County Jail release entry that documents the handoff.

Two Accomack Custody Records

Accomack County has its own jail, while Eastern Shore Regional Jail in Northampton County also holds people connected to Accomack cases. These are separate institutions with different operators and record custodians. The county of arrest or prosecution does not always identify which jail executed the release. Start with the last physical facility.

The Virginia jail directory confirms the two facilities as distinct. If the person was at ESRJ, Northampton is the records route even when the court case remains in Accomack. The Eastern Shore Regional Jail release page explains that split and the regional facility's VINE channel.

ESRJ opened in May 2007 and replaced Northampton's much older 30-bed jail. That history helps explain why an Accomack-connected person can have court records in one county and a jail release record in another. Custody location, not a guessed county label, controls the request.

Accomack Court Release Evidence

Accomack General District Court covers misdemeanors and preliminary felony stages. Circuit Court covers felony trials and appeals. Search both when the charge path is unclear. Useful fields may include case number, disposition, judgment date, sentence imposed and suspended, probation terms, bond action, and later violation events.

A disposition can explain the authority for an Accomack County Jail release, but it is corroboration rather than the physical exit timestamp. A pending case also does not prove continued detention because bond release can precede the final disposition. Match the court case to the same person and booking episode, then rely on the jail execution entry for the actual departure and receiving agency.

Note: Sealed, expunged, juvenile, and confidential matters may be unavailable; disappearance from a court search is not proof of a new release event.
